Former Climate Change Minister leaves lasting legacy

Following the announcement of Hon. James Shaw’s resignation as Green Party Co-Leader, SBC and CLC would like to acknowledge the immense contribution he’s made to the climate agenda in Aotearoa, particularly the enduring climate architecture he was instrumental in putting in place through the passing of the Zero Carbon Act and independent Climate Change Commission. Prime Minister Luxon also noted this significant contribution: "I've really respected James and what he's achieved and I think he leaves this place having left in place something that's pretty enduring, which is the net zero legislation."

Fonterra to install electrode boiler to reduce Edendale site emissions

In its next step to get out of coal by 2037, Fonterra has announced it will install a 20-megawatt electrode boiler at its Edendale site in Southland, with electricity to be supplied by Meridian Energy. The new boiler will reduce the site's emissions by 20% and Fonterra's overall carbon emissions by nearly 3% per year (from its NZ 2018 baseline) once operational in FY2025.

   

Toitū Envirocare to drive $18m emissions reduction transformation

Toitū Envirocare CE Teressa Betty is leading an $18 million business transformation to speed up Aotearoa New Zealand’s carbon emissions reduction by making Toitū’s carbon measurement, verification and reduction services more accessible, enabling it to meet growing demand. "We all need to lift the bar on climate change leadership to help unlock opportunities.”

Ryman Healthcare achieves Wellbeing Tick Accreditation

Ryman Healthcare is pleased to announce it’s been awarded the Wellbeing Tick, a significant milestone marking the company as the first healthcare organisation in New Zealand and Australia to receive this accreditation. "Being recognised with the Wellbeing Tick in our first year of auditing reflects our dedication to making Ryman a workplace that takes wellbeing seriously."

   

New Ravensdown rock shed will lower annual site emissions by 60%

Ravensdown has built a storage facility that will remove the need for fuel to keep lime rock dry in winter, reducing the site’s total annual GHG emissions by at least 60%. "We continually seek to improve the environmental outcomes of our activities and the Geraldine Lime facility is a great example of how smart thinking can lead to an innovative solution and can make a difference to climate change."

   

Visualising the top global risks in 2024

Record global temperatures, a cost-of living crisis, escalating tensions internationally what is the global risk landscape for 2024? The World Economic Forum, held last month in Switzerland, surveyed 1,490 leaders on the top global risks in 2024 and their potential scale of materiality and impact. This fascinating visualisation shows the results of that survey.
