The Warehouse Group signs historic solar deal with Lodestone Energy

The Warehouse Group will see more than 260 sites across Aotearoa New Zealand become powered by Lodestone Energy’s new solar plan as early as 2026. “We have ambitious sustainability goals, including a plan to reach zero emissions in our operations by 2040. Moving to solar electricity will help us achieve this goal years in advance."

Future Focus Corner: emerging trends and updates

First up, it's time to make sustainability more human research shows people don’t think about sustainability the way organisations do.  By transforming and humanising how we talk about sustainability, more people will be able to connect with it.

   

Is Budget 2023 congruent with New Zealand's climate commitments?

In this Insight, NZIER assess the degree to which Budget 2023 is consistent with New Zealand’s climate change commitments, including central government budget spending, tax expenditure and any major regulatory changes. It is intended to be an annual exercise, with an initial focus on congruence with commitments. 

   

Coca-Cola NZ site achieves carbon neutral certification

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners New Zealand’s (CCEP) water bottling facility in Putāruru has achieved PAS2060 carbon neutral certification“We have an ambitious goal to reach net zero by 2040 and reduce greenhouse emissions across our entire value chain by 30 per cent by 2030. Receiving [this certification] is an important step in our journey towards this goal.”

   

TNFD recommendations launched

The final recommendations from the Taskforce for Nature-related Climate Disclosure have been released. WBCSD has also released a synthesis of its TNFD pilot process (intended to provide insights for corporates companies working with the TNFD Framework), which summarises pilot member business experience, learnings, challenges, illustrative applications and examples.

Natural Climate Solutions with WBCSD

Businesses who promote themselves as ‘green’, ‘low carbon’, or ‘sustainable’ may run the risk of being sanctioned by regulators for doing so (with the inevitable reputational damage that that will cause) if they lack the evidence to prove their claims are true. DLA Piper have represented a number of major companies in defending claims of greenwashing, and in this webinar they will discuss the differences in how such advertising is regulated internationally, focusing on what businesses can do to have a harmonised approach. We will also be joined by Kea World Class New Zealander, Sarah Smart, of The Collective, to share her insights.

NEW: Recycling Week 2023

16-22 October 2023

2023 marks the 10th year of Recycling Week, Aotearoa New Zealand's largest national campaign for waste minimisation and recycling. This October, hundreds of Kiwi organisations (including SBC members All Heart NZ, ecostore and Ministry for the Environment) are taking action to spread awareness and improve waste disposal habits. With daily focuses guiding participants through the waste minimisation hierarchy, this self-directed event encourages participants to take action and tackle their waste and recycling in ways that work best for them. This campaign offers daily quizzes to test knowledge, informative webinars on topics ranging from composting to repairing, posters, and many other educational resources.
