Calling us to action - the Climate Change and Business Conference 2022

With 500 in-person attendees and around 140 online, this year's Climate Change and Business Conference was the largest in its 14-year history. Businesses, government entities and citizens alike from across Aotearoa were called to urgent action to reduce our carbon emissions, empower vulnerable communities to tackle climate change, grow the focus on nature, ensure a just transition, and embed business practices and government regulations that make all the above possible. RNZ Journalist Hamish Cardwell covered the conference read his summary and see some photos below.

   
   

Lion reduce emissions by 10%

Lion New Zealand, Aotearoa’s largest alcohol beverages company, has reduced its carbon emissions by 10%, meeting its carbon emissions reduction commitments as part of its Toitū net carbonzero organisation certification. “We are helping consumers to make informed decisions about carbon emissions through their beverage choices."

   

Oji Fibre Solutions explore sustainable wood processing

Oji Fibre Solutions has partnered with the Government on one of the first actions under the draft Forestry and Wood Processing Industry Transformation Plan, a joint $2 million feasibility study into the production of sustainable wood products, hydrogen and biofuels at Kinleith Mill in Tokoroa. Spark improves accessibility with closed captioning commitment

Spark will now include closed captioning on its advertisements and videos to make them more accessible to the over 800,000 Kiwis who identify as deaf and hard of hearing. "We know there are a wide range of accessibility issues that New Zealanders face, and we have more work underway to see how we can create more inclusive digital environments in the future.”
