Latest IPCC report is released

The sixth assessment report of the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been released, and it is once again a stark reminder of how much work there is yet to be done to turn down the dial on climate change. Have a read through this synthesis from the World Resources Institute which outlines and visualises 10 of the big findings from the report.

Mike Burrell was recently interviewed by Newsroom around the upcoming election and how important it is that business uses its collective voice in lobbying politicians for climate change action. “Stick to the game plan, keep those significant policy planks in place, don’t lose momentum – it’s only going to get harder and more expensive.”  
   

Consultation open for national EV charging infrastructure

The Ministry for Transport has released its consultation on the national EV charging strategy, which runs until 11 May. This is a significant opportunity to lay the foundation for a step change in public and private charging infrastructure. SBC will prepare a high-level submission (which can inform your own submission), which will we share with members soon.

University of Auckland raises capital for sustainability initiatives

The University of Auckland has signed a $50 million sustainability loan, making it the first in Aotearoa to qualify for a 'use of proceeds' (UoP) sustainability loan, which will be used to help fund the adaptive reuse and refurbishment of the former social sciences building. The venture has achieved a 6 Green Star Design rating from CLC signatory NZGBC.
