Silver Fern Farms publishes GHG inventory incl. livestock emissions

Silver Fern Farms has released its 

2022 Greenhouse Gas Inventory, and for the first time, it includes Scope 3 on-farm emissions from livestock (94% of the company’s emissions profile) audited by Toitū Envirocare. "Being out in front on this issue positions New Zealand farmers extremely well from a market access, trust, and value perspective."

   

Future Focus Corner: Basing flood protection on historical data - Y/N?

Flood protection based on historical records is flawed. As flood-related disasters become more severe and frequent, there are calls for rethinking how we future proof our infrastructure and response – including no longer basing our models on past flooding events. SBC members win big at the 2023 NZ Rainbow Excellence Awards 2023

SBC members and CLC signatories took away a number of awards at last night's New Zealand Rainbow Excellence Awards. Congratulations to Powerco (ASB Emerging Award), Foodstuffs North Island (Pride Pledge Innovation Award) and Craig West from Downer, who won an individual leadership award. Well done!

   

Helios confirms plans for solar farm on Maniototo Plain

Helios Energy has confirmed plans to seek resource consent for a 300-megawatt solar farm on the Maniototo Plain in Otago, which has a very high solar resource. "Responsible grid-scale solar projects like this are essential if we are to meet our national climate change commitments and power Aotearoa New Zealand’s economy."

NEW: Recycling Week 2023

16-22 October 2023

2023 marks the 10th year of Recycling Week, Aotearoa New Zealand's largest national campaign for waste minimisation and recycling. This October, hundreds of Kiwi organisations (including SBC members All Heart NZ, ecostore and Ministry for the Environment) are taking action to spread awareness and improve waste disposal habits. With daily focuses guiding participants through the waste minimisation hierarchy, this self-directed event encourages participants to take action and tackle their waste and recycling in ways that work best for them. This campaign offers daily quizzes to test knowledge, informative webinars on topics ranging from composting to repairing, posters, and many other educational resources.
