Pānui taking a mid-winter break, returning 24 August

Pānui will be taking a 2-week mid-winter hiatus, meaning you won't receive an edition on 10 or 17 August. New legislation to tackle modern slavery introduced

In an effort to combat modern slavery, the Government will introduce new legislation requiring organisations with over $20 million in revenue to report and outline the actions they take to address exploitation risks in their operations and supply chains. We're pleased to see this first step being taken and look forward to seeing further steps in the future!

   

Phoenix launches NZ's first end-to-end battery recycling solution

Phoenix Metalman Recycling has become the very first New Zealand business to offer an end-to-end nationwide ‘all waste batteries’ recycling solution, including creating hundreds of collection points across the country where people can drop off end of life batteries - regardless of their size or type. Well done Phoenix!

   

DOC, Genesis and Meridian partner to boost freshwater conservation

Efforts to protect native wildlife in Waitaki braided river systems will get a significant boost under a new $2.3m per annum agreement between DOC, Meridian Energy and Genesis Energy. The agreement comes as the two energy companies apply to renew their resource consents to use water for the Waitaki and Tekapo Hydroelectric Power Schemes. 

   

Beca partners to help enhance client understanding of planetary impact

Beca will partner with Planet Price, which specialises in AI-powered solutions that calculate the real cost of everything, to help clients better understand their planetary impact“Digital tools are critically important to enable better and faster feedback loops that incorporate real world impacts into decision-making necessary for future flourishing."

   

Air NZ seeks airports for 'next gen' aircraft route

Air NZ has opened EOI's to airports around the country as part of selecting a route to fly its commercial demonstrator aircraft from 2026, and expects to make an announcement on which type of lower emission aircraft will be flying by early next year. "The two airports selected will play a critical role in introducing lower-emissions aircraft into the Aotearoa aviation system."

Introducing 'A guide to just transition for communities in Aotearoa New Zealand'

A guide to just transitions for communities in Aotearoa New Zealand was created to help communities and organisations run their own just transition processes in response to challenges like climate change, rapid technological change, employment changes in regions and the transition to renewable energy in a way that fairly shares both the positive and negative effects. This free online seminar will feature a panel of experts and practitioners who helped develop the guide. 

   

Spend-based emissions factors for New Zealand

In this webinar, Auckland Council will demonstrate how scope three emissions can be calculated using spend data, based on a ‘consumption emissions’ approach which accounts for supply chain emissions. See how emission intensities may be used to identify interventions to reduce household emissions or by businesses and government to identify emission reduction strategies (particularly around scope 3 emissions).

NEW: Inaugural Future Workplace Forum - Digital Workplaces

HRNZ and the University of Auckland Business School, in association with Platinum Sponsor MAS, are holding the inaugural Future Workplace Forum in November 2023.  This annual event will deal with leading thinking and practice in the development of future workplaces in Aotearoa New Zealand. The inaugural event will focus on Digital Workplaces, looking at ways in which technological innovations are impacting our workplaces and how these might evolve in the future. The format for the Forum will include keynote speeches, Q&A sessions, panel discussions and exhibitor booths featuring relevant products and services.
