Update on SBC/CLC advocacy

In this video update, SBC's Executive Director Mike Burrell and Head of Climate and Nature Antonia Burbidge discuss SBC and CLC's approach to climate advocacy for 2024, including opportunities for members and signatories to get involved in upcoming consultations and submissions, such as the Climate Change Commissions' Pathways work which kicks off Monday (see Events section below).

As consumer wariness grows and regulations crack down, it's becoming increasingly tricky for businesses to know when and how they can be making green claims in their communications. COP29 Party overflow badge applications through MFAT

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has announced it will again be taking applications for COP29 Party overflow badges from Government later this year. The aim of this process is to help increase access for business and civil society participation in COP29, helping New Zealanders make the connections we need to support our own transition.

WBCSD reflections and key business takeaways on UNEA 6

The sixth United Nations Environmental Assembly Conference (UNEA 6) in Nairobi, Kenya closed on 1st March 2024 with mixed results. WBCSD was heavily involved in the conference and has prepared some takeaway messages for the business community as we look forward to a year of three COPs (climate, biodiversity and desertification).

As part of SBC and CLC’s ongoing work to support members to advocate for ambitious climate action, we will be running an engagement process to gather your views and inputs in order to create a joint submission in response to the Commission. Using the collective voice of our 130 businesses, we want to ensure the Government, and Aotearoa New Zealand, is on track to secure a sustainable, low emissions and climate resilient economy. The Impact of Offshore Wind Energy in New Zealand (BEC)
