Remembering Alice Andrew

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Alice Andrew, SBC Advisory Board Member and Technical Director of SLR Consulting New Zealand. Mike Burrell penned his reflections on Alice and her enormous impact, not only on SBC, but on Aotearoa New Zealand’s wider sustainability ecosystem. Her mahi will resonate for decades to come, and she will be enormously missed.

First trial using hydrogen to unlock low emissions aviation in NZ

SBC members Air New Zealand, Toyota and Hiringa Energy are partnering to trial hydrogen charging of Air New Zealand's electric tugs and service vehicles at Wellington Airport. "We are passionate about advancing the hydrogen economy in New Zealand by introducing innovative new technology that supports our decarbonisation ambition," said Toyota NZ Chief Executive Neeraj Lala.

   

Fonterra launches game changing product emissions tool

Fonterra’s ingredients and solutions brand, NZMP, has launched a tool to help customers access the emissions profile of individual New Zealand NZMP products. "The transparency of the footprinter means [customers] can easily assess with confidence the latest emissions profile of the product they purchase from us."

   

Asset pricing rules deterring private investment from KiwiSaver funds

SBC member Chapman Tripp helped produce a legal opinion which identified key legal and regulatory disincentives hindering KiwiSaver providers from investing in private assets, which could not only provide higher financial returns but also bring positive environmental, social and economic outcomes. NZ Post is Delivering for Good

Each year NZ Post provides 12 months of free domestic courier services to a select number of charities and social enterprise organisations who send a minimum of 1,000 parcels domestically per financial year and whose work focuses on strengthening connection, belonging and inclusion. KiwiRail signs contracts for low-emissions locomotives

KiwiRail has signed two new contracts for low-emissions locomotives with Swiss rail manufacturer Stadler. KiwiRail says the new locomotives are part of a $1.7b investment in rolling stock that will enable KiwiRail to deliver better service to its customers and further enhance New Zealand’s freight market access to low carbon emission transport. 

   

Real risk to 'brand NZ', calls for modern slavery legislation grow

Governments' indecision on modern slavery legislation is a "real risk to brand New Zealand", says Founding Director of Walk Free, Grace Forrest, who visited from Australia in February and met with business representatives (including SBC Advisory Board Chair Gareth Marriott).
