Christchurch Airport leading internationally

Christchurch Airport’s Sustainability Transition Leader Claire Waghorn recently convened the International Airport Review panel discussion 'Sustainability: No more excuses', on broadening sustainability to include diverse voices, major carbon reduction initiatives, embodied carbon, waste solutions for a circular economy, and future decarbonised aviation. Christchurch Airport has cut Scope 1 emissions by 90% since 2015 and is the world’s first airport to receive the highest carbon certification an airport can achieve (ACA Level 4 Transformation). 

Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm

Genesis Energy and Tilt Renewables have executed a conditional 20-year electricity offtake agreement for the construction of the 75MW Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm near Dargaville, Northland. Genesis CEO Marc England says the Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm will help Genesis deliver on both the Future-gen targets and their commitment to remove at least 1.2m tonnes of annual carbon emissions by 2025.

Ports of Auckland gets Japanese investment in hydrogen

Ports of Auckland has entered into a partnership with Obayashi Corporation on its project to build a hydrogen electrolyser to provide green hydrogen for the Port. The Japanese company already helped build a pilot green hydrogen plant near Taupō. Rosie Mercer, the Port's General Manager of Sustainability, said Ports of Auckland wants to become zero carbon by 2040 and saw synergies with Obayashi's previous work in New Zealand.

Interview: Emily Townsend

A great interview with Emily Townsend,  President of the Life Cycle Association New Zealand, on life cycle assessments and sustainability strategy. Emily is also Head of Life Cycle Strategies at thinkstep-anz, which has published a blog spotlighting companies getting value out of waste by using LCA's and the circular economy.

Mood of the Boardroom Survey

BusinessNZ and the NZ Herald are conducting the Mood of the Boardroom Survey, asking for views of current business issues, and sentiment among business owners and operators throughout New Zealand. The survey results will be published by the BusinessNZ Network and the NZ Herald on 14 September. The survey can be completed here, and closes on 20 August.
