NZ Post quick on EV uptake

Joint investment by NZ Post and New Zealand Green Investment Finance will accelerate the uptake of EVs into the New Zealand Post vehicle and contractor's vehicle fleet.  

Partnership for regeneration

Synlait, Danone, AgResearch and MPI are working to enhance soil health and test regenerative farming practices. New research aims to provide tools to enhance soil health, highlighting where regenerative methods can make a difference.

Eastland's climate drive 

CLC signatories Eastland Group and Trust Tairawhiti are continuing to drive climate action in Gisborne, with Eastland Port the proud owner of New Zealand's first electric water truck. Both are leading out on climate action in the region, and talked to the Gisborne Herald recently about their push for government to go further in tackling the climate crisis.

Fonterra saves 2,900 tyres in a year

Fonterra has saved 2,900 tyres in a year by changing the way it monitors its rubber hitting the road. Fonterra has partnered with Carters Tyre Service to launch the National Transport Sustained Tyre Reduction project.

Tower, Waikato Uni allied on climate action

Tower Insurance is pledging $45,000 over three years, supporting the University of Waikato’s Bachelor of Climate Change degree, helping grow understanding of climate change in the workforce to lead New Zealand’s zero-emissions future.

2022 NZ HR Awards Finalists

SBC and CLC members recognised in the nominations for the NZ HR Awards include, in the Mana Tāngata category:  Fonterra, Downer and Heartland; Aurecon, Bank of New Zealand, Fonterra, Mitre 10 and Zespri for a range of other organisational awards, and individual practitioners from Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC), Massey University, Vector and The Warehouse Group.

Fair and sustainable festive ideas 

There’s lots about Christmas that can challenge sustainable ideals. Fairtrade ANZ have come up with ways to look at the festive season differently – while still sharing presents.

RADs achievements

The Recycle a Device (RAD) initiative is achieving great results with more than 700 laptops donated and at least 1.95 tonnes of e-waste diverted from landfill, as well as working with 120 students from eight schools. RAD is supported by Spark, Auckland Council, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, and Aurecon, among others.

Air New Zealand has released a new sustainability framework alongside its 2021 Sustainability Report
DLA Piper’s Sustainability Report 2020/21 highlights its efforts to address sustainability and environment, social and governance issues.
The Warehouse Group’s annual report details efforts in areas such as ongoing staff wellbeing and diversity, community and decarbonising energy initiatives.

A unified approach to sustainability reporting  

After the European Union announcement earlier this year on a proposed Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, there’s been a call for European sustainability reporting standards to include globally consistent and comparable performance metrics and disclosures.

NEW: The circular economy and critical materials: the European perspective

 Access to resources has been a big issue for the EU for the past decade. The current ‘hot topic’: producing raw materials sustainably and in the massive quantities needed to generate low-carbon power and support electric transport, to meet the EU’s 2050 Net Zero target. Circular economy principles play a huge role in minimising market disruptions, price volatility and risk.
