Public sector accelerating to carbon zero
The Sustainable Business Council and Climate Leaders Coalition have welcomed the Government's announcement to accelerate the public sector's race to carbon zero. The announcement was the focus of three of the 26 recommendations contained in our briefing to the incoming Government.  
CLC 2019/2020 snapshot shows impressive progress
In a year of adversity, the CLC snapshot results shine the light on the remarkable resilience of CLC signatories. Compared to 2019, signatories increased by 15%, 43 companies decreased Scope 1 & 2 emissions and over 90% of signatories are reporting Scope 3 emissions.
Deloitte Top 200 announced
Deloitte's 2020 Top 200 New Zealand businesses have just been announced, and there's a strong SBC and CLC representation in the winners' circle. Fisher & Paykel Healthcare won Company of the Year, and boss Lewis Gradon took out CEO of the Year. Beca took out the Sustainable Business Leadership award. 
Westpac releases first climate risk report
Westpac has become the first bank in New Zealand to release a report detailing its exposure to climate-related financial risks. The report is consistent with the Taskforce for Climate-Related Financial Disclosure standards.
Countdown commits to green buildings
Supermarket operator Countdown is building New Zealand's first Green Star-rated supermarket. It is part of Countdown's overall commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 63% by 2030 versus its 2015 baseline.
Synlait releases 2020 sustainability report
Synlait's sustainability report has revealed several positive trends, including an improvement in the company's greenhouse gas emissions. Synlait's on-farm emissions reduced 5% over the past year, or 7% compared to its FY18 base year when targets were established. 
SBC/CLC end of year party
This year, we celebrated our joint SBC and CLC end of year networking event in Auckland. SBC chair Karen Silk, executive director Mike Burrell and CLC convenor Mike Bennetts spoke of the resilience of both organisations throughout 2020.

WSP launches Decarbonising Transport series
WSP has created a thought leadership series, Decarbonising Transport to support the Helen Clark Foundation's The Shared Path report, released earlier this month. WSP's Decarbonising Transport says Aotearoa needs to take strong action to target transport emissions turning the tide from 45% growth in emissions to achieve a 45% decline.
