Climate Leaders Coalition - one week on 
Since the launch of the Climate Leaders Coalition last week, there have been over 50 inquiries from companies wanting to sign up, showing that Kiwi businesses have an appetite to take tangible action on climate change. Speaking at the launch, Reserve Bank Governor Adrian Orr congratulated all of the businesses who signed the pledge. He also encouraged New Zealand to lead on this issue, saying "We can be a brand leader on climate change in the world given our starting point'.
Change = opportunity ahead for agriculture  
Fonterra’s Group Environment Manager, Francesca Eggleton, talks about why Fonterra is part of the Climate Leaders Coalition, the opportunity ahead for New Zealand’s agriculture sector and its important role in helping the country meet its Paris commitments. 
What do Kiwis think about climate change? 
SBC member IAG commissioned a poll of 1,000 New Zealanders through Ipsos. The poll found that over 80% of New Zealanders think we will see more frequent and extreme storms, inundation of coastal locations due to sea level rise and more droughts. They thought New Zealanders need to work together to fight climate change, and 79% believe the approach to climate change should be non-partisan and pragmatic.
Beca winning recognition for energy efficiency
Beca’s Wellington office, Aorangi House, has been awarded a 5.5 Star NABERSNZ certified base building rating by the New Zealand Green Building Council. SBC member Beca has already achieved a 6 Star NABERSNZ rating for their recent project at 33 Customhouse Quay. Aorangi House is one of the most energy efficient buildings in New Zealand, using around 64% less energy than a typical commercial office. 
Unilever to use more recycled plastic 
SBC member Unilever Australia & New Zealand this week announced they will introduce a minimum of 25% Australian sourced post-consumer recycled HDPE plastic for brands such as Persil, Dove, Surf, Sunsilk and TRESemmé, and will use more where possible. Read about Unilever's Sustainable Living Plan.  
Synlait seeing results of environmental effort 
Rural News reports on Synlait’s programme Lead With Pride, launched in 2013. The programme rewards independently certified dairy farmers for best practice in the environment, animal health and welfare, social responsibility and milk quality. Twenty-eight per cent of its farms are already certified best-practice under Lead With Pride and others are working to get certified. 
What is ESG and where did it come from?
Environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors might include how businesses respond to climate change, how good they are with water management, how effective their health and safety policies are to protect against accidents, how they manage their supply chains, how they treat their workers and whether they have a corporate culture that builds trust and fosters innovation. A new face for SBC communications   
Catherine Jeffcoat has joined the Sustainable Business Council for a year, while Renée Graham is on maternity leave. She is looking forward to helping SBC members tell their sustainability stories and inspire New Zealanders to support sustainable business. 
Elections for Advisory Board + FLP Alumni 
Nominations for the SBC Advisory Board and Future Leaders' Alumni representative have now closed, and voting will run from 23 July - 8 August. The results will be announced at SBC's Annual Council Meeting on 15 August. More information on voting will be sent to Business Council members.
