Milk-E leads the way

New Zealand’s first electric milk tanker has been welcomed into Fonterra’s fleet. Dubbed Milk-E, the tanker was built in Fonterra’s Morrinsville factory with co-funding from the Government’s Low Emissions Transport Fund, and is a huge step forward in Fonterra’s fleet decarbonisation work.

Hydrogen power for NZ Post

NZ Post has secured its first hydrogen-powered fuel cell truck which will take over from one of its emissions-heavy trucks to save 1701 tonnes of CO2 per year. The Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell truck was unveiled by NZ Post at an event attended by Energy and Resources Minister Megan Woods, and is a key part of the company’s goal to be carbon neutral by 2030.

ETS changes announced

Climate Change Minister James Shaw has announced that the country's biggest polluters will have to do more to help meet climate targets due to changes the Government is making to "decade-old settings that have allocated far too many free climate pollution credits to New Zealand’s largest emitters." Adjustments to industrial allocation settings will remove a major obstacle to industrial decarbonisation and the proper functioning of the country’s carbon market. 

Dealing with building waste

What gets thrown away in the construction sector can account for up to 50% of all waste generated in the country, and about half of it is thought to be reusable or recyclable. That's where EnviroWaste NZ comes in, sharing how it helps NZ businesses be more constructive with their building waste.

Net zero in the cloud

New Zealand’s only local cloud provider, Catalyst Cloud, has taken action to reduce its carbon footprint by attaining Toitū net carbonzero certification. It means government agencies now have a local government approved, carbon-zero cloud provider to support them to reach their emission reduction targets.

Reporting Corner: OJIFS

Oji Fibre Solutions (OjiFS) recently published its second annual Modern Slavery Statement, outlining actions taken to safeguard against human rights abuses, including staff training and supplier assessments. As part of continuous improvement in this area, OjiFS also updated its Supplier Code of Conduct.

Next Generation scholarships

The Climate Change and Business Conference Next Generation Scholarship applications are now open. Sponsored by thinkstep-anz, these scholarships entitle the recipients to a full registration to attend the 2022 Climate Change and Business Conference: Now to Net Zero. The scholarships are available to 18-30 year-olds with a demonstrable interest in and/or affiliation with the role of business in relation to climate change.
