SBC at ANZLF

SBC’s Mike Burrell has joined the Business delegation at the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum in Sydney this week. He will be moderating a session tomorrow alongside Andrew Petersen, Chief Executive of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia, looking at the trans-Tasman opportunities around net zero ahead. Keep an eye out for insights and details on the outcome of the session in next week’s Pānui.

Technology taps into a sustainable future 

In the latest case study highlighting a Climate Change and Business Conference Sponsor’s mahi, Spark shares how it is using technology to help Kiwi businesses decarbonise while driving greater efficiency and productivity. Support for new statement

Congratulations to the CLC who launched their new Statement of Ambition last week. Signatories created a real buzz sharing their support, thank you to all who posted and promoted the new Statement, and attended the Auckland event.

Electric jets for Ngāi Tahu 

Ngāi Tahu Tourism is developing a new fleet of electric jet boats, part of a large-scale plan to tackle climate change across its companies. The iwi plan for half of all their jet boat fleet to be electric by 2035, just one of the 88 action points in their plan to combat carbon emissions.

Biggest year for clean cars

The Government has revealed that the Clean Car Discount Scheme has registered 57,000 light-electric and Non Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles in its first year, a 56% increase on last year. Climate Change Minister James Shaw said the scheme is making a significant contribution towards meeting the Government’s climate change targets.

Effects of air pollution uncovered

The Ministry for the Environment, Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency, Te Manatū Waka Ministry of Transport, and Manatū Hauora Ministry of Health have today published the third iteration of the Health and Air Pollution in New Zealand (HAPINZ 3.0) study. The report presents the health impacts and social costs associated with air pollution in New Zealand for 2016.  

Deloitte commits to SLL

Deloitte has established a three year sustainability-linked loan with BNZ with targets attached demonstrating Deloitte's commitment to improving diversity and inclusion and climate change action within the company. The loan is the first of its kind to be established by a professional services organisation in NZ.

Advice welcomed on ag pricing

The Climate Change Commission’s second piece of advice on agricultural emissions pricing has been welcomed by the Government, assessing the readiness of the agricultural sector for an emissions pricing system and forming an important part of the Government’s considerations on options.

New appointment for NZTE

NZTE have appointed Florence Van Dyke as its Head of Sustainability, supporting exporters to adopt sustainable and purpose-led approaches as part of their international growth. Ms Van Dyke is co-founder of Chia Sisters and Businesses for Climate Action, and will also guide NZTE's own ongoing journey towards sustainability as a global organisation.
