Prestigious awards recognise SBC members 
Sanford has been recognised for its sustainable business practices at the Australasian Reporting Awards ceremony, winning the Sustainability Reporting Award and the Hong Kong Sustainability Award. For the second year in a row, Kiwirail has won the Communications Award - Public Sector. Other finalists from SBC include: Meridian, Z Energy, Vector and Ravensdown. Congratulations to you all! 
DB shortlisted for Cannes Lions Award
A DB Breweries and Colenso BBDO campaign called 'DB Export Beer Bottle Sand' has been shortlisted in the Cannes Sustainability Development Goals Lions awards. The Lions celebrate creative problem solving and initiatives that harness creativity and seek to positively impact the world. DB has also released its 2017 Sustainability Report, saying it's reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 47% since 2008. 
Leadership in a changing world
SBC's professional development programme for senior business leaders, Leadership in a changing world, kicks off next week. Our Sustainable Leadership Manager, Robert Perry, reflects in this article on the rise of sustainability in business, what's driving it, and what he hopes SBC members will learn from the course.  
Electrification jolts vehicle industry toward revolution
SBC Chair and Toyota NZ CEO, Alistair Davis, has written an article looking at the shift from petrol and diesel powered vehicles to EVs, arguing it will bring a rapid and radical revolution in personal transport that will have significant effects on NZ society. Read it here.
Environmental concerns on the rise
Consumer magazine has written this interesting article, covering the rise of environmental concerns by Kiwi consumers. It refers to Waikato University research, which found 20 per cent of Kiwi companies had set targets to reduce their emissions, and 24 per cent had targets to reduce water consumption. A recent KPMG survey found 23 per cent of businesses surveyed had their reports independently reviewed. 
Green Bond issue a success - $200mn raised
Auckland Council says it is the first organisation in NZ to successfully issue Green Bonds, raising $200 million to fund electric trains and associated infrastructure. Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says, “We are the first council in NZ to issue green bonds. It is a clear signal that Auckland is committed to investing in low emissions technology and protecting our environment."
Marine Stewardship Council turns 20
The international Marine Stewardship Council is celebrating its 20th anniversary. It was set up by Unilever and WWF, to drive more sustainable fishing practices, using science-based and stakeholder-driven programmes. Globally, 12 per cent of wild marine catch is MSC certified, but in NZ more than half of our wild catch is certified to the MSC Standard. Read more.
Upcoming elections - Advisory Board + FLP Alumni 
It's nearly SBC election time! The nomination period for the SBC Advisory Board and Future Leaders' Alumni representative will run from 16 - 25 July, and voting from 23 July - 8 August. An announcement of the results will happen at SBC's Annual Council Meeting on 15 August. Check your inbox for further details.

The birth of the new Carbon Footprint Standard for Products
Carbon footprint messages for products are increasingly used as a competitive advantage in the market place. So far there was no international agreement on the rules. A few days ago 85% of the ISO member states approved ISO FDIS 14067. The standard clearly defines how the calculation needs to be done. 
What does this mean for New Zealand?  thinkstep and Ekos will discuss in a webinar on 5 July.
