New Statement of Ambition for CLC

Congratulations to the Climate Leaders Coalition, who are launching their new Statement of Ambition in Auckland tonight. The new Statement accelerates business action on climate change, and raises the bar on what business leadership on climate action should look like. The Coalition will also welcome its new Convenor, Jolie Hodson, CEO of Spark, who replaces the outgoing Convenor, Mike Bennetts of Z Energy.

Making meaningful change

Incoming CLC Convenor Jolie Hodson spoke with RNZ this morning about the specifics of the new Statement of Ambition and how the new targets will translate into action for CLC signatories.

Accelerating the journey

Microsoft’s Accelerating the Journey to Net Zero report shows the biggest barrier to decarbonisation for NZ companies is accurate measurements. In this article, CLC signatory Watercare shares how it uses the report’s recommendations to measure decarbonisation targets, aiming to reduce embodied carbon by 40% by 2024 through investing in technology and research.

A greener direction for investment

Auckland University of Technology’s David Hall, University of Waikato's Jason Mika, and Toitū Tahua’s Jo Kelly discuss the obstacles and value in shifting to sustainable finance and investment practices, and the encouraging action seen from companies like Silver Fern Farms and Synlait through sustainability-linked loans.

New tool for measuring

The Sustainable Business Network and MBIE have launched the new Carbon Emissions Calculator, developed in partnership with Spark Lab, NZTE, EECA, Meridian and BNZ, who call it an “absolute game-changer." The Calculator is designed for SMEs to help them identify ways to identify their emissions and how to reduce them.

New appointment for Enviro Choice

Environmental Choice NZ has appointed Chloe van Dyke to its Board of Directors. Ms van Dyke is founder and Director of Chia Sisters, and co-founder of Businesses for Climate Action. CE Laura Gemmell says Ms Van Dyke’s experience and networks will be valuable as the organisation adapts its strategic direction in its 30th year of operation.

Reporting corner: NZTE

NZTE has released its first Sustainability Report, detailing its support for export businesses to adopt sustainable approaches as well as its pursuit of sustainability in its own operations.

Changing transport behaviour

In this second ‘moving faster’ blog, thinkstep-anz Technical Director Jeff Vickers explains how two sets of changes, technology and behaviour (such as lifting public transport use and carpooling) can increase the rate and scale of change in transport emissions.

Job opportunities

Oji Fibre Solutions, Environmental Manager, Bay of Plenty.
