IPCC report calls for urgent adaptation action

The latest IPCCImpacts, Adaptation and Vulnerabilityassessment report warns of the impacts of climate change on ecosystems, biodiversity, and human communities at global and regional levels, and how critical this decade is for adaptation.

Reduction and adaptation go hand in hand - IAG

Amanda Whiting, Chief Executive of IAG NZ, shares her perspective on the IPCC findings, noting that it’s encouraging to see more businesses recognising the importance of a two-pronged climate change approach focused on both emissions reduction and adaptation. Alongside IAG and other member organisations, SBC looks forward to the release of the Government's National Adaptation Plan.

SBC members amongst winners and finalists

Congratulations to Air New Zealand, Ngāi Tahu, and Chorus for winning their categories in the 2022 Deloitte Top 200 Awards announced yesterday. We also recognise the mahi of the SBC members named as finalists: Fonterra, Fletcher Building, The Warehouse Group, Genesis, Lion, Synlait, Spark, and SkyCity.

SBC at the NZ Economics Forum

SBC's Mike Burrell spoke on a panel at the 2022 New Zealand Economics Forum last week, joining Craig Renney from NZCTU and Bryan Chapple from the NZ Treasury to discuss navigating a changing regulatory environment for businesses. You can watch their session here.  

Genesis in the news

Genesis Energy has completed its executive team with two further internal promotions – Rebecca Larking has been appointed Chief Operations Officer, and Pauline Martin appointed as Chief Trading Officer. With these appointments, Genesis is now one of a few NZX top 20 companies with a gender-balanced executive team. 

Chief Executive Marc England also spoke to the NZ Herald about building capability for the future.

Chapter Zero New Zealand launch

Today marked the launch of Chapter Zero New Zealand, hosted by the Institute of Directors. Air New Zealand and ASB Bank chair Dame Therese Walsh has been appointed chair of the Chapter Zero's steering committee. The global climate governance initiative will help directors to effectively govern organisations in their response to climate change. 

Transpower consulting on renewable energy zones

Transpower has opened consultation on the concept of Renewable Energy Zones and a potential pilot project in Northland. The consultation aims to understand whether it is a path New Zealand should pursue, and who the potential collaborators on REZs in New Zealand could be. Consultation closes 5pm Friday 8 April.
