Platform for Action on Climate and Emissions
SBC has launched a new website, the Platform for Action on Climate and Emissions. AKA PACE. It aims to support and inspire businesses to tackle climate change and reduce their emissions. It's a great resource for people wanting to find out more about the many private-sector projects and collaborations on climate change already underway.
See the PACE website here and the blog by SBC's Climate and Resources Manager, Kate Alcock.
Decent work and economic growth
In this week's Sunday Star-Times article on sustainable development, we hear about three Wellington-based businesses creating decent jobs and economic growth on the other side of the world: Karma Cola, Kowtow and Little Yellow Bird. The article was anchored on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 8, called 'Decent work and economic growth'. Read the article here.
Connecting climate change with supply chain
Abbie Reynolds' article in BusinessPlus magazine focuses on the major surge in the level of business’ ambition in New Zealand. Nearly 15 of SBC’s members have now set long-term targets to reduce their emissions, which align with, or go further than, New Zealand’s target under the Paris Agreement. One trend emerging is in supply chain management, with a growing number of Kiwi companies looking for suppliers to help them meet their sustainability objectives. Read the article here
The Warehouse leads EV charging stations
Adding to its electric charging stations at North Island stores, The Warehouse has begun installing new stations at South Island stores, including Invercargill, Blenheim and Christchurch. Environmental general manager, Greg Nelson, says, "It's awesome that we're able to utilise our scale to support the EV infrastructure in New Zealand and we hope that it encourages more New Zealand motorists to consider an electric vehicle." Read more here.
Action on energy poverty
It's shocking that one in five Kiwis live in energy poverty. Flick Electric's 'Give a Flick' campaign is calling for positive change to help out families in need. You can read more here and if you share this video, Flick will give an LED lightbulb to a household in need.
