Waste Management, Fletcher Building and the Government have worked together on a solution to turn waste into energy. Fletcher's Golden Bay Cement in Portland will soon use tyre-derived fuel as an energy source for cement manufacturing, reducing its reliance on coal by around 15%. Read more here

Four weeks and 5700 kms down, the Fuji Xerox sustainability team's EV road trip has reached the end of the road. Juhi Shareef and Emma Harding drove from Whangarei to Bluff in a BMW electric vehicle, visiting regional branches to highlight the company's new sustainability strategy. Read the blog post here.

Victoria University of Wellington researchers are working on new technology to help build the world’s first hybrid-electric jet plane - these planes would increase aircraft fuel efficiency by more than 33 percent over today’s jet engines. Victoria is also the first university in New Zealand to sign up to the Sustainable Development Goals - read more here.

The New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy 2017-2022, Unlocking our energy productivity and renewable potential, was released this week. It focuses on the three biggest cost-effective opportunities for NZ: Renewable use of process heat; low-emissions transport; and Innovative use of electricity. Read the strategy here.
