Climate Leaders Coalition celebrates fifth birthday

12 July 2023 marked the fifth birthday of the Climate Leaders Coalition! Hear Mike Burrell's reflections on the significant impact CLC has had over the last five years, and read the recently released CLC Annual Plan here. Meridian joins THRIVE, SBC's Future Work ecosystem

We're excited to share that Meridian has joined SBC's Future Work ecosystem pilot alongside NZ Post and NZ Steel – not only that, there are now 80 active users on the platform! In this blog, Manager Thriving People Robert Perry outlines recent updates on the project, including a number of different communities within the ecosystem. 

   

Motu and MBIE release SBC-consulted just transitions guidance

MBIE and Motu Economic and Public Policy Research have released new just transitions guidance to help communities in Aotearoa New Zealand tackle major challenges. Robert Perry and a handful of members were consulted during the development of this guidance, and we're very pleased to see it come to fruition. Read the guide here.

   

Sustainability Fundamentals: Reporting Toolkit

The second toolkit in our Sustainability Fundamentals kete has to do with sustainability reporting, often a daunting challenge for organisations starting out on their journey. In the toolkit, we outline the benefits, history and process, as well as the different reporting types, standards, frameworks and tools businesses can use. 

   

OfficeMax introduces new supplier mandates around sustainability

OfficeMax has launched a Responsible Supplier Code and Sustainable Packaging Guidelines for its ~500 domestic and international suppliers. "OfficeMax has a longstanding commitment to pursuing a sustainable business future, and we knew that we had an opportunity (and indeed a mandate) to play our part in helping to accelerate change."

Z Energy continues EV rollout, aims for 20% coverage by end of year

Z Energy plans to have EV chargers available at 20% of its service stations across the country by the end of the year, making it easier for EV drivers to charge up on the go. "Charging an EV should be as simple as filling your car up with petrol. This roll-out is our commitment to EV drivers. It’s us saying, ‘We want to make the charging experience as good as possible’."
   

MfE releases updated emissions measurement guidance

Updated guidance is available to help organisations measure and report their emissions in line with best practice. This year’s Measuring emissions: A guide for organisations from the Ministry for the Environment includes new information on spend-based emissions, and updates to more accurately calculate emissions from purchased electricity.

Climate Change Commission and Victoria University: How do we achieve a low-emissions and resilient future?

Nearly 90% of journeys to work in Tauranga are by private motor vehicle, causing significant congestion challenges for the fast-growing region and contributing to emissions. So, for the month of July, Priority One with support from partners such as Mercury, Hikotron and Big Street Bikers are unveiling innovative and sustainable alternative transport options at an interactive, free showcase called ‘the Shift Hub’. From e-bikes, e-motorbikes, public transport (bus), car share, e-scooters, e-mopeds, e-skateboards, rideshare, Locky Docks, EV chargers, walking and cycling - there is plenty to learn about so residents can rethink their commute.

ExportNZ is bringing together representatives from Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, NZ Story, Ministry for Primary Industries, and the New Zealand Export Credit Office for a roadshow around Aotearoa New Zealand to talk about everything and anything export! This free series of events is designed to give exporters and businesses the opportunity to hear from our partners about how they are supporting exporters and give you the space to engage, provide feedback, and ask questions. This webinar explains how our design team helps clients communicate their sustainability work to engage stakeholders and have an impact. It will cover how design can clearly tell your sustainability story, interpreting the most important things your audience needs to know, how to accurately present your sustainability claims and avoid greenwashing, and how graphics can make your words come to life.
