SBC Guide: Making the business case for sustainability

Sustainable businesses create value in the short and long term – economically, environmentally and socially. So how do you get your stakeholders on board? This new SBC Guide, created with thinkstep-anz and Kaitiaki Collective, contains guidance for sustainability professionals looking to make the business case for sustainability to their executives and embed it as a business priority. 

   

Climate change and health event

It was great to partner this week with Health New Zealand, Tonkin + Taylor and Southern Cross Healthcare on a breakfast event delving into the creation and key findings of climate change scenarios for the healthcare sector (and why they should matter to everyone), as well as what the health sector is doing to combat climate change and why this is important. Huge mihi to all the partners!

   

Climate is a strong start but nature is the big banana

After attending the climate change and health event described above, thinkstep-anz's TNFD Lead Rosie Dodd pulled together a blog outlining some of her key insights from the kōrero, including the critical role of nature in ensuring everyone has the right to a healthy environment. The ties that bind again and again: Mitre 10 and Naylor Love

The building industry uses countless plastic cable ties for short-term, single use fixes, most of which ultimately end up cut loose and dumped. Naylor Love went looking for a solution and found reusable cable ties, then teamed up with Mitre 10 to have them as an off the shelf product. AgriZeroNZ invests $9.9m in US methane vaccine company

In its second investment in vaccine development, AgriZeroNZ has invested NZ$9.9m in a U.S. ag-biotech start-up to accelerate the development of a methane vaccine for ruminant animals, which "could be one of the best long-term options to really shift the dial on agricultural emissions in New Zealand without compromising farm profitability, as well as a powerful tool globally."

SBC Thriving Voices: Procuring for impact - using your buying power to unleash better outcomes for people, business and nature

NEW: CLC Masterclass Series: How can climate action plans support the restoration of nature?

In this Masterclass, we take a closer look at how to include assessment of nature-based risks and opportunities in climate plans. Our speakers will share insights from their own nature positive projects and provide useful tips on how to build community partnerships to restore ecosystems and grow biodiversity in the world around us. Speakers will include Beca’s Sustainability Advisory Principal Genevieve Smith and Lyttelton Port Company’s Head of Environment and Sustainability Dr Crystal Lenky.
