Westpac

Westpac prides itself on being a leader in sustainable business practices. For us, this means tackling the long-term challenges facing our customers, our business and the country as a whole and helping develop solutions that contribute to a stronger New Zealand.

This involves acknowledging our impact on society and the environment, and being accountable to our customers, employees and investors. We believe this is what New Zealanders expect of businesses in their community.

Building on our previous strategy which saw us win the Overall Large Company Award at the New Zealand Unlimited Sustainable 60 Awards in 2012, in 2013 we launched "Our Tomorrow", a broad sustainability strategy reaching across our economic, environmental and social impacts, with the following priority areas:

Providing economic solutions to environmental challenges – developing financial solutions that help grow the CleanTech sector and support customers to tackle environmental challenges.
Creating sustainable financial futures – supporting financial education for all New Zealanders and helping people gain access to social and affordable housing.
Contributing to our communities – supporting our communities by acting locally, inspiring leadership and providing help when it's needed most.
Responding to demographic and cultural change – ensuring we reflect our national demographic make-up and helping people work longer should they wish to.
Sustainably managing our operations – demonstrating our leadership credentials by continuing to embed sustainability within our operations and supply chain.
Oversight for our Sustainable Business Strategy is provided by a Steering Committee comprising Westpac New Zealand Limited's Executive Team and our Chief Economist. Beneath this are working groups responsible for implementing, managing and developing specific elements of our strategy.
