HW Richardson Group (HWR) is one of New Zealand’s largest privately-owned transport companies. With its head office based in Invercargill, Southland, HWR’s operations stretch across New Zealand and Australia. It is the parent company to 48 sub companies that span six sectors – transport, petroleum, concrete, environmental, contracting and quarrying. Some of its well-known brands include Allied Petroleum, Allied Concrete, Dynes Group, SouthRoads and Allied Bulk. HWR is a big company with big ideas that can make a big difference. It is committed to meaningful change in the sustainability space. HWR joined the Sustainable Business Council in 2022. As a leader in the transport industry, HWR feels it has a responsibility to also be a leading champion of sustainability. It achieved Toitū carbonreduce status in early 2022, has introduced EVs to its corporate vehicle fleet, adopted a sustainability policy and has several projects in progress, focused on reducing environmental harm, including carbon emissions. In one of its biggest challenges to date, HWR is undertaking a green hydrogen energy project. This ambitious vision for the nation’s transport sector will see NZ’s heavy transport industry segue to hydrogen as a sustainable fuel alternative, resulting in significant reductions in carbon emissions. HWR plans to lead an approach to hydrogen fuel adoption by fitting hydrogen conversion units to existing truck fleets.
