The
Sustainable Business Council is delighted that New Zealand has today ratified
the Paris Agreement on climate change.
Executive
Director of the Sustainable Business Council Abbie Reynolds says ratification
is a significant and positive step.
“It
is important to have a voice at negotiating table on rules that matter to New
Zealand. At the same time we need to focus on what has to be done at
home,” Abbie Reynolds said.
“SBC
members are leading the way on domestic action by changing business practices,
electrifying vehicle fleets and other initiatives, but permanently reducing our
domestic emissions will require business and government working collaboratively
together.
“Hopefully
it is more than symbolic that on the day of ratification business and
government are today holding a workshop to jointly understand and identify
solutions to improve freight efficiency and reduce the freight sector’s carbon
intensity.
“This
is characteristic of what needs to be done together to meet the domestic
emissions reduction challenge we face.”
